How to write great web content
A content marketing strategy means writing lots of interesting material to get your website noticed, but where do you start? Here are some tips to writing great content.
Keywords
Keyword research finds the keywords that people are using in the search engines to find websites like yours. Although content does not have to contain keywords, articles that do tend to get more visitors.
Stuffing articles with too many keywords will destroy the flow of the text though, so be restrained and natural in your writing.
Links
If an article refers to other content or research, then cite these sources and provide a link to them. As well as helping your readers, sites that you link to will often provide reciprocal links back to your site.
Write simply
Avoid jargon, buzzwords and using eight or nine words when one will do. Write simply and clearly.
Delay the editing
After you have spent an hour or so and lots of brain power creating an article, don’t be tempted to edit it straight away. Come back to the text the next day, preferably first thing in the morning when your mind is fresh. Ideally give the article to someone else to edit who is an expert in spelling and grammar.
Check your facts
If you are stating something as a fact, research your subject on the internet to make sure that you have the sources to back up any claims or opinions you make. You could link to them if necessary.
Make the thesaurus your friend
If you find that you repeat the same verbs or adjective many times in an article, use a thesaurus to look up synonyms for these words. It is easy to do this with Microsoft Office by simply right clicking anywhere in a word and selecting ‘Synonyms’ for a list of alternatives.
Writing great web content is an art, and the experts here at Pressroom can do the hard work for you.
